|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mon Jul-20 20:56:23 | NVDA | ▼ short | +0.88 | +0.53% | -2.12% | Entry vs. outcome: The short thesis (sector-wide selloff on SK Hynix supply news) essentially didn't play out—the trade eked out +0.88 USD (~0.1%) while sitting through a -2.12% adverse excursion against only +0.53% favorable. That's a terrible realized risk/reward: you risked ~20x what you captured, and the "broad selloff" catalyst was likely already priced in by the close you sold at. Improvement: Add a confirmation filter to the entry rule—only short on negative sector news if NVDA itself closed down meaningfully that day (e.g., >1.5% below prior close or below VWAP), so you're trading confirmed momentum rather than a stale headline. Alternatively, since adverse excursion dwarfed the edge, an intraday stop at -1% would have cut this trade for a loss—which is the honest signal that the entry thesis was weak, not that you got lucky holding to close. |
| Mon Jul-20 20:56:32 | TSM | ▼ short | -8.42 | +0.22% | -2.98% | Retrospective note — TSM short: The entry bet on continued post-earnings downside ("sell the news" drift), but the fundamentals were unambiguously bullish — a beat plus raised capex guidance — and the one-day selloff was sentiment noise, not a fade signal. The trade never worked: max favorable excursion was a trivial +0.22% versus -2.98% adverse, meaning the drift thesis was wrong essentially from the open, and the -8.42 USD loss reflects the stock reverting toward its fundamentals overnight. Improvement: Don't take short-side overnight drift entries when the earnings event itself was a beat-and-raise; require the negative price reaction to be confirmed by a fundamental miss or guidance cut, or at minimum require the stock to close below the prior day's low before shorting. Betting against strong fundamentals on one session of valuation-driven selling is fading mean reversion, not riding drift. |
| Mon Jul-20 20:56:43 | GOOGL | ▼ short | -11.70 | +3.42% | -3.74% | Entry vs. outcome: The short was premised on NHTSA regulatory scrutiny of Waymo, but Waymo is a rounding error in Alphabet's revenue mix — that's a headline, not a materiality-weighted catalyst, and GOOGL closed up ~1.7% against the position for a -$11.70 loss. Notably, the trade was up +3.42% unrealized at some point, so the thesis briefly "worked" but the rigid hold-to-next-close rule gave it all back and then some. Improvement: Either (a) add a materiality filter to the entry rule — only trade regulatory headlines if the affected segment is >5-10% of the company's revenue — or (b) add a take-profit exit (e.g., close if unrealized gain exceeds +2.5%) since overnight-drift edges are small and letting a +3.4% winner round-trip into a loss defeats the strategy's purpose. |
| Mon Jul-20 20:56:52 | ASML | ▲ long | -13.44 | +2.36% | -1.23% | Entry vs. outcome: The rationale bet on post-earnings drift after a beat-and-raise, but the drift didn't materialize — the position closed -0.77% despite touching +2.36% unrealized, meaning the edge existed intraday but the rigid next-close exit gave it all back and more. The core problem is that a strong beat is often fully priced in at the entry close, leaving no overnight drift left to capture. Improvement: Add a profit-taking mechanism instead of a blind next-close exit — e.g., a trailing stop after +1.5% unrealized, or a hard take-profit at +2%. Alternatively, tighten the entry rule to require that the stock closed below some threshold of its post-earnings intraday high (evidence the beat isn't already fully priced), rather than buying any beat unconditionally. |
| Mon Jul-20 20:57:00 | PLTR | ▲ long | +20.44 | +3.25% | -1.78% | The thesis worked as intended: catalyst-driven overnight drift on partnership news delivered +2.2%, capturing most of the +3.25% peak with tolerable -1.78% adverse excursion. That said, the entry rule fired on already-stale news — PLTR "rallied following announcements," meaning the pop was partially priced in at entry and the trade rode residual momentum rather than the catalyst itself. Concrete improvement: require the news to break after the prior close (or within N hours of entry) and add a filter rejecting entries when the stock is already up more than ~3% intraday on the same headline, since chasing extended moves shrinks the edge and fattens the left tail. |
| Mon Jul-20 20:57:08 | MU | ▲ long | +4.79 | +5.35% | -2.27% | The rationale is muddled: the cited news (smartphone shipments down 10%) is actually bullish for MU as a memory supplier benefiting from surging DRAM/NAND prices, yet the rule treated it as generic "other" news rather than sector-directional signal — so the +0.56% win looks more like luck than thesis. The bigger failure is exit discipline: the position was up +5.35% unrealized and gave back nearly all of it by holding rigidly to next-close. Concrete fix: either add a take-profit trigger (e.g., exit if unrealized gain exceeds 3% intraday), or require the entry classifier to tag news as bullish/bearish for the specific ticker's position in the supply chain before sizing the trade. |
| Mon Jul-20 20:57:17 | AAPL | ▲ long | -15.38 | +0.06% | -3.05% | Entry vs. outcome: The rationale was a generic overnight-drift play dressed up with a news headline (market-cap milestone) that had no directional edge — Apple surpassing Nvidia amid an AI selloff is arguably a rotation signal, not a momentum one — and the trade went almost straight down (-2.3%, with max favorable excursion of only +0.06%). The news hook was already priced in at entry; buying at the close after a widely-reported milestone is buying the top of the headline. Improvement: Add a filter requiring the catalyst to be forward-looking (earnings, guidance, product) rather than a same-day market-cap/ranking headline, or at minimum require the stock to have closed in the upper half of its intraday range before taking the overnight-drift entry. Alternatively, add a hard stop: with -3.05% max adverse excursion vs. +0.06% favorable, a 1% overnight stop would have cut this loss by two-thirds. |
| Mon Jul-20 20:57:24 | AMD | ▲ long | +9.78 | +5.45% | -1.15% | The entry rationale (generic overnight drift) got lucky riding a strong earnings surprise, but the mechanical "exit next close" rule squandered most of it — the position was up +5.45% at peak and you booked only +0.98%. That's a give-back of over 80% of the max gain, which is a exit-rule failure, not an entry win. Concrete fix: when the entry is tagged as an earnings play, exit at the next open (capturing the gap) or add a trailing stop that locks in gains once unrealized P&L exceeds ~3%, instead of blindly holding to the close. |
| Mon Jul-20 20:57:35 | MSFT | ▲ long | +14.96 | +2.13% | -7.16% | Entry vs. outcome: The rationale — a multi-year AI capex slowdown narrative driving rotation into hyperscalers — has essentially nothing to do with a one-day overnight drift trade; a 2027-2028 forecast is not an overnight catalyst. The trade made +1.9%, but that's luck masking a bad process: the position was down as much as -7.16% while open, meaning the drawdown was nearly 4x the eventual gain. Improvement: Add a hard stop (e.g., exit if unrealized loss exceeds -2%) rather than blindly holding to next close, and require the analyst rationale to cite a catalyst on the same timescale as the holding period — reject entries where the thesis horizon exceeds the trade horizon by more than ~10x. |
| Mon Jul-20 20:57:43 | META | ▲ long | -0.53 | +3.64% | -4.19% | The entry leaned on a soft, second-hand catalyst ("reportedly entered into" a supply agreement) that had no measurable price impact — the trade round-tripped to essentially flat (-0.53) while whipsawing +3.6%/-4.2% intraday, meaning the overnight-drift thesis captured all the risk and none of the drift. The rationale conflates a routine procurement headline with a tradeable event; supplier deals are a bigger deal for the supplier (Sandisk) than the buyer (Meta). Concrete fix: require the catalyst to be a primary-source confirmation (company filing/PR, not "reportedly") AND gate entry on the stock showing abnormal volume or >0.5% move on the news day — otherwise skip, since flat-reaction headlines have no drift edge to harvest. |
| Mon Jul-20 20:57:53 | TSLA | ▼ short | +22.96 | +3.10% | -21.53% | Entry vs. outcome: The thesis (competition + regulatory credit risk) is a slow-burn, multi-quarter narrative that has no business justifying a one-day overnight short — and the trade nearly proved it, sitting -21.5% underwater before luckily closing +$23. This was a bad process that got bailed out, not a validated edge; the rationale and the holding period are fundamentally mismatched. Concrete improvement: Require the entry rationale to include a dated catalyst within the holding window (earnings, mandate vote, deliveries report) for overnight trades, or add a hard stop at -3% to -5% adverse excursion — a -21.5% drawdown on an overnight position means the strategy currently has effectively unbounded risk relative to its ~3% profit target. |
| Mon Jul-20 20:58:05 | AMZN | ▲ long | +9.04 | +2.09% | -2.03% | Entry vs. outcome: The rationale was thin — a multi-company partnership headline where Amazon is one of five names mentioned is barely AMZN-specific catalyst, and the ±2% intraday swing against a +0.9% final gain shows the trade was essentially a coin flip that landed well, not a validated edge. Improvement: Tighten the entry rule to require the ticker be the primary subject of the catalyst (e.g., named in headline, or sole/lead counterparty), not one entry in a list; alternatively, require an estimated materiality check (deal size vs. market cap) before a "partnership" tag qualifies as a buy signal. Right now the rule would fire on any press release that name-drops a mega-cap, which is noise, not drift. |
| Mon Jul-20 20:58:15 | SMCI | ▲ long | -21.32 | +1.89% | -2.24% | Entry vs. outcome: The rationale bet on overnight drift from a splashy but vague partnership headline (gigawatt-scale, 2027 completion — no revenue, no timeline that matters), and the market agreed it was hype: the stock never got more than +1.9% ahead and closed down -2.1%. News this speculative and far-dated is typically fully priced in by the close you're buying at, so you were holding pure overnight noise with no edge. Improvement: Add a materiality filter to the entry rule — only take the overnight-drift trade if the catalyst has a quantifiable near-term financial impact (signed contract with dollar value, delivery within ~12 months) and the stock closed up on above-average volume that day, confirming the market is actually treating it as news rather than a press release. |
| Mon Jul-20 20:58:23 | AVGO | ▲ long | +11.52 | +3.04% | -1.00% | Entry vs. outcome: The entry leaned on a single analyst's "buy the dip" call — thin, narrative-driven justification — but the trade worked, gaining +1.55% with modest -1.0% adverse excursion, so the outcome flatters a weak signal. Note the trade left ~1.5% on the table versus the +3.04% peak, meaning the fixed next-close exit captured only half the available move. Improvement: Stop treating a lone analyst soundbite as sufficient entry rationale; require a quantitative confirmation (e.g., stock down ≥X% over the past N sessions to verify an actual "correction" exists) so the rule is mechanical rather than headline-dependent. Alternatively, add a trailing-stop exit once unrealized gain exceeds +2% to avoid round-tripping intraday peaks back to the close. |
| Mon Jul-20 20:58:32 | META | ▲ long | +4.50 | +1.70% | -0.80% | Rationale vs. outcome: The catalyst is an AMD product launch with Microsoft as the customer and Nvidia as the competitor — META appears nowhere in the thesis, so the +$4.50 gain is pure noise, not validation of the signal. The trade also chopped both directions (+1.7%/-0.8%) with no evidence the catalyst drove META's price at all. Improvement: Add a hard entity-match gate to the entry rule: the traded ticker must be a named party in the catalyst (issuer, customer, or directly-cited competitor), and reject FRESH verdicts where the mapped symbol fails that check. This trade should have bought AMD or been skipped — celebrating the P&L here would reinforce a broken ticker-mapping step. |
| Mon Jul-20 20:58:41 | TSLA | ▼ short | +10.38 | +1.46% | -0.29% | Entry vs. outcome: The bearish thesis — BYD out-delivering Tesla triggers a repricing — technically worked, but barely: the trade captured most of a shallow ~1.4% move (max favorable +1.46%, minimal adverse excursion), suggesting the market had largely digested a competitive-dynamics story that isn't new information about Tesla itself. A $10 gain on a 2-share position is noise, not validation of the REPRICING verdict. Improvement: Reserve REPRICING for company-specific catalysts (Tesla's own deliveries, margins, guidance) and downgrade competitor-relative headlines to a weaker verdict tier requiring confirmation (e.g., TSLA already breaking a technical level or estimate revisions) before entry — second-order news like "rival sold more" repeatedly produces these low-magnitude, low-conviction fills. |
| Mon Jul-20 20:58:52 | AAPL | ▼ short | +6.09 | +1.39% | -0.35% | Comparison: The entry called this a "REPRICING" event for Apple, but the news was about OpenAI/io — a second-order competitive-threat story with zero direct financial impact on AAPL, and the "historical parallels to Microsoft litigation" is narrative filler, not a catalyst. The trade won +$6 (~0.2%), which is basically noise and doesn't validate the thesis; the stock barely moved, consistent with the market correctly treating this as irrelevant to Apple's near-term earnings. Improvement: Restrict the REPRICING verdict to news where the traded ticker is the direct subject (acquirer, target, or party to a material financial event); competitor/adjacent news should be capped at a weaker verdict (e.g., "WATCH" or a smaller position tier). Secondarily, the exit left most of the +1.39% peak on the table — a trailing stop after +1% MFE would have captured more of the move. |
| Mon Jul-20 20:59:02 | AMZN | ▼ short | -1.32 | +0.22% | -1.30% | The entry treated a sensational geopolitical headline as a materially bearish catalyst, but the market shrugged — AMZN barely moved, and a UAE/Bahrain data-center incident is a rounding error for AWS revenue, so "FRESH" said nothing about magnitude. Worse, the headline itself is dubious (unverified/possibly fabricated), meaning the rule fired on unconfirmed single-source news. Concrete fix: gate FRESH verdicts with a materiality filter — require the event to plausibly affect a meaningful share of the company's revenue or earnings (e.g., >1-2%) and demand corroboration from a second independent source before trading; otherwise downgrade to no-trade. |
| Mon Jul-20 20:59:11 | TSM | ▼ short | +3.00 | +0.82% | -0.78% | Comparison: The entry called this a "REPRICING" event, but the catalyst was just a competitor CEO's self-serving talking point (Gelsinger has an obvious incentive to hype Taiwan risk) — no new fundamental information about TSM itself. The outcome confirms it was noise: price meandered ±0.8% and closed a mere 0.37% lower; the +$3 P&L is luck, not edge. Improvement: Add a source-quality gate to the verdict logic: statements from competitors, short sellers, or other conflicted parties should be capped at a weaker verdict (e.g., "NARRATIVE" / no-trade) unless corroborated by a primary source or hard data. Alternatively, require REPRICING verdicts to clear a minimum expected-move threshold (say, implied move >1.5%) before triggering an entry — this trade never had that potential. |
| Mon Jul-20 20:59:19 | AAPL | ▼ short | +2.55 | +1.03% | -0.72% | Entry vs. outcome: The thesis was a macro repricing story (oil spike, geopolitical risk), but the trade captured a trivial +0.26% move that never exceeded ±1% unrealized — that's noise, not a repricing. If the verdict were genuinely "REPRICING," you'd expect a multi-percent directional move; the outcome suggests the macro narrative was either already priced in or too diffuse to hit a single mega-cap name. Improvement: Require a stock-specific transmission check before assigning REPRICING off macro news — e.g., demand direct exposure evidence (Apple supply chain disruption, guidance risk) or downgrade broad macro headlines to a weaker verdict tier with smaller size. Alternatively, add a minimum expected-move threshold (say, implied move >1.5%) to justify the REPRICING label at all. |
| Mon Jul-20 20:59:28 | QCOM | ▲ long | -8.15 | +1.19% | -1.06% | Entry vs. outcome: The bullish thesis leaned on a single segment (automotive, ~$1.3B of Qualcomm's ~$10B quarterly revenue) that's too small to move the stock, and the market had likely already priced the headline by entry — the trade never got more than +1.19% before drifting to a -0.95% loss. The "FRESH" verdict conflated a genuinely strong sub-segment story with a tradeable catalyst for the whole ticker. Improvement: Add a materiality filter to the verdict logic: only grade earnings-driven signals FRESH/bullish if the cited catalyst covers a meaningful share of total revenue (e.g., >25%) or comes with a company-level guidance raise — otherwise downgrade to STALE/no-trade. Alternatively, require post-earnings price confirmation (e.g., stock holding above the earnings-day open) before entry, since a max favorable excursion of barely 1% suggests you bought exhausted news. |
| Mon Jul-20 20:59:37 | META | ▲ long | +0.38 | +1.07% | -0.03% | Retro note: The entry thesis (fresh AI-compute leasing news = bullish catalyst) was directionally correct — the position ran to +1.07% unrealized with essentially zero drawdown (-0.03%) — but the exit rule captured almost none of it, banking +$0.38 (~0.06%). The entry logic isn't the problem; the trade management is: you correctly identified a clean, low-adverse-excursion move and then gave nearly all of it back. Concrete improvement: Add a trailing-stop or partial take-profit tied to the FRESH verdict — e.g., once unrealized gain exceeds +0.75%, trail at half the peak gain — so a FRESH-catalyst trade that immediately works locks in more than noise. Alternatively, if FRESH verdicts routinely peak intraday and fade, shorten the holding window to exit near the momentum peak rather than waiting for a time-based close. |
| Mon Jul-20 20:59:46 | MSFT | ▼ short | -11.30 | +0.08% | -1.64% | The entry shorted MSFT on a second-order inference — news about Meta leasing capacity to Anthropic was treated as a direct Azure threat — and the market never validated it: max favorable excursion was a negligible +0.08% while the position bled to -1.64% before exiting at a loss. That's a classic "speculative competitive-threat" signal getting a FRESH verdict it didn't earn. Concrete fix: require the traded ticker to be a direct subject of the catalyst (not an implied competitor) to qualify for FRESH, or downgrade indirect-impact stories to a lower-conviction tier that requires price confirmation (e.g., negative intraday momentum) before entry. |
| Mon Jul-20 20:59:55 | MSFT | ▲ long | +9.30 | +1.39% | -0.08% | Rationale vs. outcome: The entry logic is Intel-centric (Intel's earnings, Intel's Nvidia investment, Intel's Apple deal), yet the trade bought MSFT on a tenuous second-order "partner" link — the +1.17% gain looks like generic mega-cap drift, not a validated repricing thesis, so this is a win the strategy can't take credit for. Improvement: Add a rule that a REPRICING verdict may only trigger a trade in the ticker that is the primary subject of the catalyst; spillover/partner trades should require an explicit, quantified transmission mechanism (e.g., partner revenue exposure >5%) or be downgraded to no-trade. Otherwise you're systematically laundering vague news association into directional bets. |
| Mon Jul-20 21:00:03 | MSFT | ▲ long | +9.22 | +1.37% | -0.10% | The entry logic is muddled: the catalyst was an AMD event (MI500, Advancing AI), yet the strategy bought MSFT on a second-order "partner mention" — that's derivative exposure to a catalyst that barely prices into a $3T mega-cap. The trade worked (+1.16%, max drawdown only -0.10%), but that's likely beta/luck rather than validation of the thesis, since AMD's product event was never going to reprice Microsoft. Improvement: Require the traded ticker to be the primary subject of the catalyst for a REPRICING verdict; partner/customer mentions should be downgraded to a weaker verdict (e.g., SYMPATHY) with a smaller size or no trade, especially when the derivative name's market cap dwarfs the catalyst company's. |
| Mon Jul-20 21:00:12 | MSFT | ▼ short | -9.86 | +0.01% | -1.44% | Rationale vs. outcome: The entry logic is incoherent — a bearish MSFT short was triggered by Apple news that was arguably bullish (EPS beats, $100B buyback), so the "FRESH" verdict fired on a catalyst with no direct or clearly signed relationship to the traded ticker. The trade never worked (max favorable excursion of +0.01% vs. -1.44% adverse), meaning the thesis was wrong essentially from the first tick, not just stopped out by noise. Concrete improvement: Add a hard entry gate requiring the catalyst headline to name the traded ticker (or an explicitly defined peer-pair with a documented sign convention, e.g., "AAPL beat → bearish MSFT" must be a pre-registered cross-ticker rule, not an inference). If cross-ticker trades are intentional, downgrade their verdict one notch (FRESH → STALE) so they require a stronger secondary confirmation before sizing in. |
| Mon Jul-20 21:00:26 | NVDA | ▼ short | +12.64 | +1.90% | -0.03% | Retro note: The entry thesis (broad semi repricing on the Kimi K3 shock) played out directionally, and execution was clean — max adverse excursion was basically zero (-0.03%), meaning you sold near a local top. However, you captured only ~1.5% of a 1.9% max favorable move on a headline that supposedly wiped out $3.3T, which suggests either the news was mostly priced in by entry time or the thesis magnitude was overstated relative to the actual follow-through. Improvement: Add a staleness/pre-pricing check to the REPRICING verdict — e.g., only trigger a bearish entry if the underlying (or SOX) has retraced less than ~50% of its initial headline move, or if the news is under N hours old. Right now the rule conflates "big scary headline" with "remaining downside," and this trade's tiny realized edge versus the headline's stated scale implies you're entering after the crowd. |
| Mon Jul-20 21:00:35 | META | ▲ long | -3.11 | +0.50% | -0.51% | Entry vs. outcome: The "FRESH" verdict treated a debt-financing announcement as bullish, but capex funding news is at best neutral-to-negative for the equity short-term (it signals spending, not earnings), and the trade chopped in a ±0.5% range before closing at -0.48% — no directional edge ever materialized. The signal was a news-classification error dressed up as freshness: the story was about Meta, not good for Meta shareholders on this timeframe. Improvement: Add a category filter to the entry rule — exclude or downgrade financing/capex announcements from the bullish bucket unless paired with an analyst upgrade or guidance revision; alternatively, require the FRESH verdict to also clear a minimum expected-move threshold (e.g., implied catalyst >1%) since a max favorable excursion of +0.50% means the thesis never had room to pay for the round trip. |
| Mon Jul-20 21:00:43 | META | ▲ long | -1.20 | +0.80% | -0.22% | The entry thesis—a cheaper-but-weaker AI model announcement—was a soft catalyst with no clear revenue impact, and the trade predictably went nowhere (-0.19%), so the FRESH verdict overweighted novelty over materiality. Notably, the position touched +0.80% unrealized before giving it all back, meaning even this weak signal was mismanaged on the exit side. Concrete fix: require the catalyst to have a quantifiable financial angle (pricing, guidance, revenue) to earn FRESH, and add a take-profit or trailing stop at ~+0.5% for low-conviction product-news trades so fleeting pops get captured. |
| Mon Jul-20 21:00:54 | META | ▲ long | -5.78 | +0.09% | -0.92% | The entry treated "preliminary talks" about a $10B deal as a REPRICING event, but rumors of early-stage negotiations rarely reprice a $1.6T company — and the price action confirmed this, with the position never getting more than +0.09% in the green before drifting to a loss. The signal-to-materiality mismatch is the core problem: $10B of potential lease revenue is roughly 5% of Meta's annual revenue, contingent and years out, which is noise at this market cap. Concrete fix: downgrade "preliminary/exploratory talks" headlines from REPRICING to WATCH (no trade), and only allow REPRICING verdicts on confirmed agreements or on news where the deal size clears some threshold relative to the company's market cap or revenue (e.g., >5% of trailing revenue, definitive agreement signed). |
| Mon Jul-20 21:01:02 | META | ▲ long | -5.17 | +0.05% | -0.83% | Blunt take: The entry rationale is about an AMD–Anthropic partnership, yet the strategy bought META — the catalyst has zero connection to the ticker traded, so the loss is noise on top of a broken signal-to-instrument mapping. Even ignoring that, the catalyst was speculative ("code references suggest... may occur"), which is rumor-tier evidence being treated as a REPRICING verdict. Concrete improvement: Add a hard entry gate requiring the traded ticker to appear as a named entity in the catalyst text (here that would be AMD, not META), and demote rumor-stage catalysts ("testing phase," "potential," "may occur") from REPRICING to a watchlist verdict that doesn't trigger trades until confirmation. |
| Mon Jul-20 21:01:10 | NVDA | ▼ short | +4.08 | +0.91% | -0.33% | Rationale vs. outcome: The entry shorted NVDA on second-order speculation — an unconfirmed AMD-Anthropic partnership inferred from code references — which is a weak causal chain for a bearish NVDA thesis, and the outcome reflects that: a barely-positive +0.5% move ($4.08 on 4 shares) with the position never showing more than ±1% conviction either way. This was noise capture, not edge; the trade "worked" by luck, and the FRESH verdict overstated the signal's directional relevance to a company that wasn't the subject of the news. Improvement: Require the catalyst to name the traded ticker directly (or add a "derivative-impact" penalty that downgrades FRESH to STALE/WEAK when the trade is a cross-company inference), and gate speculative sourcing — "code references suggest" and "potential customer" language should fail a confirmation threshold before triggering entry. |
| Mon Jul-20 21:01:21 | NVDA | ▲ long | -4.68 | +0.28% | -0.96% | Entry vs. outcome: The entry treated a broad "partnership announcement" as fresh bullish catalyst, but government/sovereign-AI partnership news is typically low-materiality for a mega-cap like NVDA — and the price action confirmed it, never gaining more than +0.28% before drifting to a -0.57% loss. The "FRESH" verdict measured recency, not impact. Improvement: Add a materiality filter to the entry rule: require the catalyst to have a plausible revenue impact relative to market cap (e.g., skip partnership headlines with no dollar figures for stocks >$500B cap), or demand price confirmation (e.g., stock up >0.5% on above-average volume within 30 min of the news) before buying. FRESH alone shouldn't be sufficient — FRESH + MATERIAL should be the bar. |
| Mon Jul-20 21:01:31 | TSLA | ▼ short | +7.48 | +1.10% | -0.09% | The bearish thesis (options positioning + weak fundamentals ahead of Q2 earnings) directionally worked — price never went more than 0.09% against you — but the trade captured only ~0.5% of a max 1.1% favorable move, so the exit gave back half the edge on a thesis that was essentially correct. The bigger issue is that "REPRICING" was assigned to a pre-event positioning story, not an actual repricing; that's anticipation, not confirmation, and it worked here mostly by luck. Concrete fix: restrict the REPRICING verdict to post-catalyst trades (enter only after earnings print confirms direction), or if pre-event entries stay allowed, add a trailing stop at ~50% of max favorable excursion so a correct call like this banks closer to the full move. |
| Mon Jul-20 21:01:39 | NVDA | ▲ long | -5.72 | +0.13% | -1.10% | Entry vs. outcome: The entry chased a long-dated, non-actionable narrative — a CEO's own 2030 capex projection is promotional talking-point material, not fresh tradeable news — and the price action confirmed it: the trade never got more than +0.13% in the money before bleeding to a -0.70% loss. There was no near-term catalyst or price confirmation backing the "FRESH" verdict; the market had likely already absorbed the headline by entry. Improvement: Tighten the FRESH verdict to require the catalyst to be (a) new information not sourced from the company's own promotion, and (b) tied to a horizon inside the trade's holding period — or alternatively, gate entries on a minimum momentum/confirmation filter (e.g., price above VWAP or a positive 30-minute return post-headline) so stale hype headlines don't qualify. |
| Mon Jul-20 21:01:50 | NVDA | ▼ short | +5.20 | +1.03% | -0.06% | Entry vs. outcome: The entry was a second-order inference — bearish NVDA on a headline about AMD/Microsoft, not NVDA itself — and while it happened to work (+5.20, nearly zero adverse excursion), that's a thin edge: competitor-partnership news rarely moves the incumbent predictably, so this reads more like a lucky beta trade than validated signal. The trade also gave back ~40% of its peak (+1.03% best, exited at ~0.64%), meaning the exit logic left money on the table on an already small position. Improvement: Tighten the FRESH verdict to require the traded ticker to be named in the catalyst headline; route indirect/competitor news to a weaker verdict tier (e.g., STALE or half-size) unless there's a direct revenue-impact estimate. Secondarily, add a trailing stop or take-profit near +1% for these low-conviction cross-ticker trades, since favorable excursion decays fast. |
| Mon Jul-20 21:02:00 | NVDA | ▼ short | +5.12 | +1.03% | -0.06% | Retrospective: The entry logic — shorting NVDA on an unverified Huawei marketing claim — was thin, and the outcome reflects that: the trade worked only marginally (+0.63% move, +$5.12), meaning the "FRESH bearish" verdict overweighted a competitor press release that the market largely shrugged off. Vendor self-benchmarks against Nvidia are a recurring headline genre with a poor track record of moving NVDA more than intraday noise. Improvement: Add a rule that competitor product announcements only qualify as FRESH/tradeable if corroborated by a hard catalyst (third-party benchmarks, a named customer defection, or NVDA gapping >1% on the news at entry) — otherwise downgrade to no-trade or half size. |
| Mon Jul-20 21:02:08 | NVDA | ▲ long | -3.76 | +0.02% | -0.86% | Entry vs. outcome: The rationale was a broad secular thesis (AI compute demand benefits NVDA) applied to a short-horizon trade — the "FRESH" verdict conflated news novelty with tradeable edge, and the position never got more than +0.02% in your favor before closing at -0.46%. A structural demand story about a third-party model launch has no defined catalyst or timing edge, so the entry was essentially a coin flip on intraday noise. Improvement: Require the FRESH verdict to be paired with a direct-impact test — the news must name the traded ticker as a primary subject (earnings, guidance, contract win), not a second-order beneficiary via a "benefits the ecosystem" inference. Alternatively, downgrade second-order theses to a lower-conviction tier that requires confirmation (e.g., price above VWAP or a 0.5% move in the thesis direction) before entry. |
| Mon Jul-20 21:02:15 | META | ▲ long | -1.41 | +0.45% | -0.29% | Entry vs. outcome: The "FRESH bullish" verdict on a product-launch headline was basically a coin flip — the stock never moved more than ±0.5% while open and closed down 0.22%, meaning the news had no tradeable edge at this size or holding period. A low-priced API launch is arguably margin-dilutive, so labeling it bullish without checking pricing/margin implications was lazy. Improvement: Require a minimum expected-move filter before entry — e.g., only take FRESH verdicts if the catalyst historically produces >1% moves for that ticker (product launches at mega-caps rarely qualify) — or add a rule that "priced significantly lower than competitors" flags a margin-risk override, downgrading the verdict from FRESH to NEUTRAL. |
| Mon Jul-20 21:02:23 | META | ▼ short | +0.97 | +0.26% | -0.47% | Rationale vs. outcome: The thesis was a big regulatory headline (potential $12B DSA fine) but the trade captured just +0.15% — and the position actually spent more time underwater (-0.47%) than it was ever profitable (+0.26%), so the "FRESH" verdict likely fired on news the market had already priced in or shrugged off. A one-share, sub-dollar P&L on a headline of that magnitude means the edge, if any, wasn't real; this is a coin flip that landed heads. Concrete improvement: Require price confirmation before entry — e.g., only trigger a FRESH bearish verdict if the stock is down at least 1% from the pre-headline print within the first 30 minutes, otherwise downgrade to STALE/no-trade. Preliminary regulatory findings (vs. actual fines) rarely move mega-caps and should carry a lower verdict tier by default. |
| Mon Jul-20 21:02:35 | META | ▼ short | +0.23 | +0.15% | -0.58% | Rationale vs. outcome: The entry was a stretch — a macro thesis about OpenAI, Microsoft, Google, and Amazon missing AI ad-revenue targets was mapped onto META, which isn't even named in the catalyst. The trade spent most of its life underwater (-0.58% max adverse vs. +0.15% max favorable) and the +$0.23 exit is pure noise, not thesis confirmation; this was a lucky scratch, not a win. Improvement: Tighten the FRESH verdict to require the traded ticker be explicitly named in the source analysis (or add a relevance score threshold), so sector-adjacent headlines can't trigger single-name directional trades. Alternatively, demand a minimum expected-move estimate before entry — a signal this diffuse shouldn't clear the bar for a trade at all. |
| Mon Jul-20 21:02:45 | NVDA | ▼ short | +2.20 | +0.69% | -0.02% | Entry vs. outcome: The rationale was a slow-burn geopolitical/structural story (China's multi-year chip independence push), not a genuinely "FRESH" price-moving catalyst — and the outcome confirms it: NVDA barely moved, and the +$2.20 on 4 shares (~0.27%) is noise, not thesis validation. The max adverse excursion of -0.02% shows the market largely shrugged. Improvement: Tighten the FRESH verdict to exclude macro/policy stories with multi-year horizons — require either a company-specific catalyst with a near-term earnings/guidance impact, or confirmation that the stock has actually reacted (e.g., >1% move on above-average volume within the first hour of the news). Otherwise you're paying spread and risk to trade headlines the market has already priced or doesn't care about yet. |
| Mon Jul-20 21:02:53 | TSM | ▲ long | -0.60 | +0.26% | -0.45% | The entry treated a headline about TSMC's $100B U.S. investment as "FRESH," but this kind of mega-cap announcement is priced in within minutes — the flat outcome (-0.60 USD, never more than ±0.5% excursion) confirms the trade bought stale news with zero remaining edge. The rationale wasn't wrong about direction so much as irrelevant: the market had already digested it. Concrete fix: tighten the FRESH verdict to require both (a) headline age under ~15 minutes and (b) price not yet moved more than some threshold (e.g., 0.5%) from pre-news levels — otherwise downgrade to STALE and skip. Alternatively, add a minimum expected-move filter so you don't burn commissions and slippage on trades where even the best case was +0.26%. |
| Mon Jul-20 21:03:00 | NVDA | ▲ long | -0.84 | +0.04% | -0.52% | The entry treated a TSMC capex headline as a "repricing" catalyst for NVDA, but it's second-order news at best — the stock never moved more than +0.04% in your favor, meaning the market had either already priced it in or didn't consider it NVDA-relevant, and the trade bled to a small loss. The rationale conflated sector-adjacent news with a direct catalyst. Concrete fix: require the REPRICING verdict to only fire on news where the traded ticker is the primary subject (or add a "direct vs. sympathy" tag), and demote sympathy plays to a no-trade or smaller-size WATCH verdict. |
| Mon Jul-20 21:03:07 | AMZN | ▲ long | +2.92 | +0.32% | 0.00% | The entry thesis was a swing-sized catalyst (July 30 earnings, AWS acceleration), but the trade captured a mere +0.29% scalp with almost zero adverse or favorable excursion — the position was closed long before the stated catalyst could play out, so the rationale and holding period were mismatched. Either the exit logic is choking catalyst trades or the "FRESH" verdict is firing on pre-event anticipation chatter rather than actionable news. Concrete fix: require the catalyst date to fall within the strategy's intended holding window (e.g., no earnings-based FRESH verdicts if the report is more than N days out), or downgrade pre-earnings anticipation stories to STALE/NO-TRADE since they carry event risk without a realized signal. |
| Mon Jul-20 21:03:16 | NVDA | ▼ short | -0.28 | +0.39% | -0.08% | Entry vs. outcome: The rationale was a second-order inference—shorting NVDA on AMD-positive news—which is a weak, indirect signal, and the market agreed: the trade went essentially nowhere (-0.28 USD, max adverse move only -0.08%). Notably, the position saw +0.39% unrealized gain that was never captured, so even the marginal thesis briefly worked but the exit logic gave it back. Improvement: Restrict FRESH verdicts to news where the traded ticker is the primary subject; competitor/partnership news about other companies should require a downgraded verdict (e.g., SPECULATIVE) with reduced size or no trade at all. Alternatively, if cross-ticker inference trades are kept, add a take-profit trigger (e.g., +0.3%) since these weak-signal trades evidently mean-revert fast. |
| Mon Jul-20 21:03:26 | NVDA | ▲ long | +0.32 | +0.08% | -0.38% | Rationale vs. outcome: The entry treated a routine partnership announcement as a fresh bullish catalyst, but for a ~$5T mega-cap like NVDA, a single Japanese infrastructure deal is noise — and the market agreed, with the stock going essentially nowhere (+0.04%, max excursion under ±0.4%). The "FRESH" verdict measured recency, not materiality, so the strategy paid spread/commission risk for a catalyst that couldn't plausibly move the ticker. Improvement: Add a materiality gate to the verdict: partnership/deal news should only trigger entry if the estimated deal value is meaningful relative to company revenue or market cap (e.g., >1–2% of annual revenue), or require confirming price/volume momentum within the first N minutes before entry. Alternatively, downgrade "partnership" catalysts for mega-caps to no-trade by default — they only work as signals on small/mid-caps where the deal actually moves the needle. |
| Mon Jul-20 21:03:40 | AAPL | ▼ short | +4.50 | +0.47% | -0.43% | Retro note: The entry thesis was a broad macro story (gas prices → consumer spending → tech), and the outcome reflects that vagueness: the trade never moved more than ~0.5% in either direction and the +$4.50 gain is noise, not confirmation of "repricing." A genuine repricing verdict should produce a move larger than the intraday chop; this was a coin flip that happened to land heads. Improvement: Tighten the REPRICING threshold to require a direct transmission channel to the ticker (e.g., supply chain, input costs, or revenue exposure named explicitly), not second-order macro sentiment — or alternatively, gate entries on a minimum expected-move estimate (say, >1.5%) so trades where max favorable excursion is under half a percent get filtered as "no edge" before entry. |
| Mon Jul-20 21:03:49 | META | ▼ short | +2.90 | +0.54% | -0.16% | Entry vs. outcome: The bearish thesis (Meta left as sole defendant facing jury trial) was directionally right but barely — the trade captured +0.45% with max favorable excursion of only +0.54%, meaning this was headline noise, not a repricing event. Litigation risk of this type is well-known and largely priced in; a "FRESH" verdict overweighted the novelty of the Snap settlement versus its actual materiality to Meta's market cap. Improvement: Add a materiality gate to the FRESH verdict for legal/regulatory catalysts — e.g., require an estimable financial exposure above ~1% of market cap or a concrete near-term deadline (trial start within N days) before triggering entry; otherwise downgrade to WATCH. Alternatively, if these low-conviction regulatory trades stay in the system, cap them at reduced size and set a tight profit target (~0.5%), since MFE data shows that's all they tend to give. |
| Mon Jul-20 21:03:59 | ASML | ▼ short | -0.88 | +0.06% | -0.04% | Comparison: The entry thesis was "sell the news" fatigue, but the market had already fully priced that reaction — the stock barely moved after entry (±0.06% max excursion), and the trade bled a fraction on spread. The FRESH verdict was wrong: by the time "shares declined despite beating earnings" is observable, the move is over and you're shorting a stock that's already repriced. Improvement: Add a staleness check to the verdict logic — if the price reaction described in the catalyst has already occurred (e.g., stock moved >1x its average daily range on the news before entry), downgrade FRESH to STALE and skip. Alternatively, require a minimum post-entry expected-move threshold; a trade whose entire realized range was 0.1% never had enough edge to cover transaction costs. |
Verdict: best decision day of the pilot — both prior fixes (S4 verdict gate, S4 position control) are live and visibly working, closed P&L flipped positive (≈ +$54: ≈ +$24 from yesterday's S4 book, ≈ +$30 intraday), but a mass execution failure silently voided every pre-open decision. No injected instructions found in story summaries.
Observation 1 — ~35 S1-S3 orders show status "failed" with null fills, and every one maps to decisions timestamped 12:00–13:20 UTC, i.e., before the 13:30 UTC cash open; essentially everything decided from ~13:30 on filled normally. This is the ASML/MSFT null-fill pathology from my last two reports, now generalized: the entire premarket decision flow — including the day's highest-materiality alerts (NVDA earnings mat 95, ASML earnings/guidance mat 85, TSMC Arizona mat 85) — produced zero executed trades and therefore zero calibration data. Several failed morning FRESH buys would have lost (NVDA ~205.7→203.28, ASML ~1779→1738), but a calibration pilot needs to measure that, not be rescued by a broken order path.
Observation 2 — the S4 verdict gate landed and did its job: MU skipped as PRICED at +4.87% (12:00) and repeatedly after — MU faded 894.74→862.80 (-3.6%); GOOGL/TSLA/AMD PRICED skips were similarly correct. Remaining flaw: first-signal-wins assigns overnight direction by arrival time, not signal quality. TSM locked SHORT at 12:40 off a mat-65 trade-secret story, then position control blocked mat-85 BUY signals at 13:10 and 18:50 (TSMC's $100B/$265B Arizona expansion). NVDA locked LONG at 12:00 off the mat-65 Ackman opinion piece and blocked the 15:30 mat-85 Kimi-K3 REPRICING sell plus three later sells.
Observation 3 — intraday +$30 still hides the recurring second-order-inference bleed: MSFT was traded four times off other companies' news — two S3 sells (-11.30, -9.86) inferred bearish from AAPL/Meta stories, two S2 buys (+9.30, +9.22) inferred bullish from Intel/AMD stories — net ≈ -$3 of churn on a name where the catalyst never named the traded direction. The retros flag this ticker-mapping failure in roughly a third of today's 50 notes; it's the largest source of noise trades now that the gates behave.
Recommendation (single change): fix pre-open order handling — any S1–S3 order created before the 13:30 UTC regular-session open should be queued as a market-on-open order and filled at the official opening print (then exit at the same day's close as usual), instead of being submitted immediately and dying with a null fill. Log queued→filled transitions so failures become visible rather than silent. Applied today this converts ~35 void orders — covering the day's three highest-materiality alerts — into measurable trades, which matters more for calibration than their sign. Next in line if unfixed: allow a strictly higher-materiality FRESH/REPRICING signal to replace (not stack on) an open S4 slot in the opposite direction.
